Cory Schneider is a retired National Hockey League goaltender who was drafted 26th overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2004 NHL Draft. After honing his skills in college hockey at Boston College, he joined the Canucks in 2008 as a backup to Roberto Luongo. Schneider quickly impressed with his strong positional play, quick reflexes, and composure under pressure, sparking a goalie controversy in Vancouver as he eventually shared starting duties with Luongo. In 2013, Schneider was traded to the New Jersey Devils, where he was initially seen as the future successor to legendary goaltender Martin Brodeur. With the Devils, Schneider established himself as one of the top goalies in the league, especially during his early years, known for his high save percentage and ability to keep games close even with a struggling team in front of him. Unfortunately, recurring injuries affected his later career, and his performance declined as he battled hip issues and other ailments. After several seasons with the Devils, Schneider was eventually bought out in 2020. He later signed with the New York Islanders organization, where he primarily played with their AHL affiliate but occasionally served as a backup at the NHL level. Though his NHL career had its ups and downs, Schneider is still respected for his technical skill, professionalism, and resilience as a goaltender.
