Logan Thompson is a current National Hockey League goaltender playing for the Washington Capitals. Thompson’s path to the NHL was unconventional and marked by perseverance. Undrafted, he played in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Brandon Wheat Kings before spending time in the minor leagues, including the ECHL and AHL. Thompson joined the Vegas Golden Knights organization in 2020, initially playing for their AHL affiliate, the Henderson Silver Knights. His strong performances in the AHL earned him the league’s “Outstanding Goaltender” award (the Baz Bastien Memorial Award) during the 2020-21 season. His success at the AHL level led to opportunities with the Golden Knights, where he impressed with his athleticism, quick reflexes, and competitive edge. Thompson received significant NHL playing time during the 2021-22 season, where he continued to perform well and helped solidify Vegas’s goaltending depth. In the 2022-23 season, Thompson took on an even larger role as a starting goaltender for the Golden Knights, helping to lead the team to many victories with his aggressive style and ability to make crucial saves. His steady presence in net made him a fan favorite and a valuable asset to the Vegas roster especially during the 2022/23 Stanley Cup playoff run. Thompson was traded to the Washington Capitals during the summer of 2024 which will allow him to refocus his game and push the Capitals back into the Stanley Cup playoffs in 2025.
