Chris Osgood is a former NHL goaltender best known for his long and successful tenure with the Detroit Red Wings, where he quietly built one of the most impressive resumes in league history. Born on November 26, 1972, in Peace River, Alberta, Osgood was drafted 54th overall by the Red Wings in 1991 and went on to become a three-time Stanley Cup champion and one of just a handful of goalies to notch over 400 career wins. Osgood made his NHL debut in 1993 and quickly became a fixture in Detroit’s net. He was the starting goaltender when the Red Wings won the Stanley Cup in 1998, and he later played a critical role in their 2008 championship run, coming in as the starter after a midseason change and backstopping the team all the way to the Cup. He also earned a ring as a backup during Detroit’s dominant 1997 campaign. Though often overlooked in conversations about the league’s elite goalies, Osgood was known for his clutch performances, calm demeanor, and ability to thrive under pressure. He posted a career goals-against average of 2.49 and recorded 50 shutouts over 744 games. He’s also one of only a few goalies in NHL history to score a goal, doing so in 1996. Osgood spend majority of his career with the Red Wings but also played for the the New York Islanders from 2001-2003 and the St. Louis Blues from 2003 - 2005. After the NHL lockout in 2005, Osgood returned back to Detroit for the final chapter in his NHL career, eventually retiring in 2011.
